Market prospect and opportunities for January 2016 (weeks 1 to 4 inclusive)

This market prospect for the main Flandria products is applicable for weeks 1 to 4 inclusive and was drawn up on 3 December. Forecasts are based on expected deliveries until that date. Auction prices are compared against prices in the same period last year. January is a great month for promotional deals with leeks, sprouts and all kinds of cabbages.

Leeks
Delivery: supplies of Flandria leeks are approaching a peak. By about week 2, the LAVA auctions are expecting 2 million kg, increasing to between 2.5 and 2.8 million kg per week by weeks 3 to 5.
Price: in November, leek prices were higher than in November 2014, and across the whole of 2015, too, producers were earning higher average prices.

Chicory
Delivery: the volume increases to around 1.3 million kg/week in weeks 52 to 5.
Price: the auction price in November this year was lower than in November 2014. Across the whole of 2015, prices are higher than in the corresponding period last year.

Cabbage lettuce
Delivery: in weeks 1 to 5, the producers will be supplying between 1.5 and 1.8 million heads/week.
Price: auction prices for cabbage lettuce in November were lower than in November 2014, and the average price across the 48 weeks of this year was slightly higher.

Multicolor lettuce
Delivery: in weeks 1 to 4, the LAVA auctions are expecting between 150,000 and 200,000 heads/week.
Price: the auction price in November was comparable to November 2014, and the same applied to the average price compared with the corresponding period last year.

Lollo bionda
Delivery: in weeks 1 to 4, the trade can expect about 150,000 heads/week.
Price: the auction price in November was a little higher, and the average was also higher.

Lollo rossa
Delivery: in weeks 1 to 4, the volume expected is between 30,000 and 50,000 heads/week.
Price: the auction price in November was comparable, but the average was higher.

Red/green oak leaf
Delivery: supplies fluctuate around 60,000 heads/week in weeks 1 to 4.

Lamb's lettuce
Delivery: in weeks 1 to 5 inclusive, the trade can expect supplies of 30,000 kg/week.
Price: lamb's lettuce was fetching comparable auction prices in November, and on average across the 48 weeks of 2015, the prices are higher.

Red cabbage
Delivery: the volume available in weeks 1 to 5 increases slightly to about 80,000 units/week.
Price: auction prices in November were higher than in the same period in 2014, and for the 48 weeks of 2015, average prices were comparable to those in the corresponding period last year.

White cabbage
Delivery: a new increase in supplies in weeks 1 to 5, with 150,000 to 180,000 units/week.
Price: auction prices for white cabbage were higher than in November 2014, and the same applies to the average price.

Green cabbage
Delivery: the supply increases again to between 100,000 and 120,000 units/week in weeks 1 to 5.
Price: growers were earning a slightly lower price at auction in November. However, the average price was higher than in the corresponding period in 2014.

Celeriac
Delivery: the supply decreases to between 130,000 and 180,000 heads/week in weeks 1-5.
Price: auction prices for celeriac in November were higher than in November 2014. However, the average price across the 48 weeks of 2015 was lower than in the corresponding period last year.

Sprouts
Delivery: the LAVA auctions expect 200,000 kg/week in weeks 1-5.
Price: in November, growers were earning a slightly lower price than in November 2014, and the average price was slightly higher than in the corresponding period last year.

Loose tomatoes
Delivery: in weeks 1 to 5, the supplies are very limited, at between 300,000 and 400,000 kg/week.
Price: in November, producers were earning much lower prices; in the 48 weeks of 2015, auction prices are slightly higher than in the same period in 2014.

Cluster tomatoes
Delivery: a continued drop in weeks 1 to 5, with volumes fluctuating between 600,000 and 750,000 kg/week.
Price: in November, auction prices for cluster tomatoes were much lower than in November 2014; but the average price was higher compared to 2014.

Cucumbers
Delivery: the new season gets underway in week 4, with a volume of 100,000 units.
